A McDonald's restaurant in south east London was the first venue to open in the UK – and it's celebrating its 50th anniversary by giving away free meals.

Woolwich McDonald’s is marking its 50th anniversary on Wednesday, November 13 and invites everyone to join the fun at 56-58 Powis Street.

As part of the golden anniversary event, Woolwich McDonald’s will give away 50 free Extra Value Medium Meals from 11am.

The first 50 customers can enjoy a medium meal with a choice of Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, McChicken Sandwich, Filet-o-Fish, Chicken McNuggets, various wraps, the McPlant or Vegetable Deluxe.

Each meal includes a medium side and drink, with one meal available per customer.

Guests can also grab exclusive McDonald’s merchandise, including Big Mac socks, keyrings, and Milkshake-scented air fresheners to make the Woolwich’s 50-year celebration on the high street.

Since opening in November 1974, Woolwich McDonald’s led the way as the UK’s first branch.

Today, McDonald’s has over 1,450 locations across the UK and employs around 177,000 people.

McDonald’s Franchisee, Taimoor Sheikh, who owns and operates the Woolwich restaurant and eight others in south east London, said: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate 50 years of McDonald’s Woolwich serving our wonderful community.

“This milestone is a testament to the loyalty and support of our customers, as well as the hard work and dedication of our team.

“We are excited to give back to our community with free meals and a fun party in what was the UK’s very first McDonald’s restaurant, and we look forward to many more years of creating memorable experiences together.”
