Schoolchildren laid a wreath to commemorate those who lost their lives in conflict as the borough marked Remembrance Sunday.
The Gower School’s Year 6 pupils were among those who joined the Mayor of Islington, MPs and members of the armed forces in a procession from Highbury Fields, along Upper Street to Islington Green War Memorial.
Head girl Maja and Head boy Hugo took part in the ceremony, laying a wreath made of hand-sewn poppies crafted by Year 1 and Year 2 children.
Mayor of Islington Cllr Anjna Khurana, councillors and representatives of local Armed Forces and civilian organisations gathered at 10.45am for the service of Remembrance.
The service included a two-minute silence, prayers, military bugle calls, and an opportunity for attendees to lay wreaths at the Islington Green War Memorial.
The commemorations were followed by two other services. A Remembrance service was also held at Spa Green Garden at 12pm.
There was also a community Remembrance ceremony at Royal Northern Gardens at 1.30pm.
Cllr Khurana said: “Remembrance Sunday is a poignant time to honour the lives lost in the First World War and all conflicts since."
Cllr Marian Spall, Armed Forces Champion for Islington Council, said: “Every year, residents of Islington continue to show how meaningful Remembrance Sunday is for them, the wider community and for our veterans and Armed Forces..”
