Located in the heart of the Borough of Barnet, the Darlands nature reserve is a jewel trapped in the sprawling suburbs of North London.
The Darlands Nature Reserve provides the perfect walk, the biodiversity and flowing rivers adding to the already beautiful landscapes. The woodlands provide an amazing place for dog-walking and community of dog owners are kind and respectful.(I would note that you should avoid allowing dogs to drink river water wherever you walk!)
The nature reserve is cared for by the Darlands Conservation Trust ,a charitable incorporated organisation, their work has been vital in maintaining the natural ecosystem and the paths running through the nature reserve.
This September the process of de-silting the lake was completed, this is great news as the project will restore the lake to an average depth of 1.5m and as a result be able to provide for a larger variety of wildlife.Furthermore the silt removed is being dried to be used to improve soil quality for planting and creating new habitats.
Darlands is also home to a tonne of wildlife species, with many bird species such as the grey heron, redwings, egrets, coots, etc. It is a great place for taking wildlife photos, hence the photo gallery on the Darlands conservation trust website.
Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast or just looking for a fun walk, Darlands is a must visit and a place of great natural beauty.
