The first images of how a transformed college campus in Hornchurch could look have been revealed.

The plans for New City College's Ardleigh Green site aim to improve the campus and its buildings in order to provide facilities that are suitable for the future learning and training needs of students and the community.

A public exhibition is being held to allow neighbours and stakeholders to view the plans, see the proposed finished product and share their views.

The exhibition will be at the campus on November 18 from 10am until 4pm and November 19 from 2pm until 6pm.

The refurbishment project plans to create new-look buildings, complete with "cutting-edge" technology.

The contemporary design is set to be sustainable and "aesthetically pleasing". according to the college, with classroom upgrades and an improved internal layout.

Other proposed improvements include a new main building facing Ardleigh Green Road, floor-to-ceiling windows, a landscaped courtyard, a new learning resource centre, a canteen, high-quality teaching spaces, and a third-floor extension.

The redevelopment is considered essential to improve the condition of the buildings, some of which the college says have poor energy efficiency and require constant maintenance.

The works will take place over a phased two-year period.

Ardleigh Green deputy principal Jonathan Briggs said: "The redevelopment project will ensure that the college’s buildings and student spaces are designed to house industry-standard equipment and provide flexibility to keep up with meeting local, regional and national skills needs.

"We want to support and grow our local businesses by providing a pipeline of future talent from Ardleigh Green."

A planning application is set to be submitted later this year.
