An international supermarket could be coming to Rainham.
A planning application has been submitted to convert a warehouse, formerly occupied by Five Star Batteries, at 87 New Road into a public supermarket.
Internal reconfigurations and a new roof are also part of the proposals, as well as a larger car parking area.
A document published in support of the application said: “Our mission is to make the local migrant community in the area enjoy authentic taste, to stay connected to the roots and cultures as it is in their home countries and ultimately winning the challenge of bringing a smile to each customer.
“We plan to open an international style supermarket to service the local migrant community with hard to find authentic products."
It said the supermarket would be branded Asko, with the applicants currently behind Asko foods - a cash and carry/ distribution company.
A planning statement said ten full-time staff would be employed at the Rainham store.

The statement said: “We are starting Asko supermarket as a stand alone retail site to service the market in Rainham which is an ever increasing residential location.
“Our strengths are in the sourcing of these specialised products whilst maintaining the strongest qualities.
“We have built an extremely strong team with an emphasis on customer service, hygiene, health, safety and good practice.
“The whole team have shared our company ethos, allowing us to grow in significant size. We have a strong customer base which will be transferred to Asko supermarket."
A decision on the application is due to be made by Havering Council before Christmas Day.
