In East Dulwich you can visit this artsy house that turns into an open house art gallery once a month.
East Dulwich is hugely known for its eclectic mix of art, whether it’s the striking street art or its historic picture gallery featuring artwork from the 17th and 18th centuries.
East Dulwich was named as one of the UK’s “best places to live” for 2025 by Muddy Stilettos for a second year running, and its art was a prime reason why it made the list again for another year.

Stephen acquired the house on Melbourne Grove in 1998 and over time he turned the space into his physical diary, gallery and museum, which is today full of antiquities and displays which delve into the life of the artist.

A few times a year this unique space is open to the public to visit, where you can explore thisOn the House of Dreams website, artist Stephen Wright described the house and museum as a ‘legacy” that explores “all the things that many of us have to deal with in life.”
The space, which has been bequeathed to the National Trust, is currently open to the public on a handful of days by Stephen, with December 7 the final date the house will open for 2024, before opening again in March.

Alongside mosaics, the house also contains objects and trinkets that Stephen collected during his travels around the world, including thousands of broken dolls in the museum and garden, collected from Budapest, Prague and Madrid.
The house also features a ‘Shrine’ with a range of objects from Mexico, along with objects that featured in an exhibition for the charity Mencap in 2014.
You can visit the house for £12, with a discounted price for students of £7.
