A man whose dog attacked a stranger is wanted after he turned up at court “drunk and abusive”.

Wayne Drinkell’s dog, a Staffie cross named Boo Boo, attacked a stranger in Brighton City Centre in January.

But magistrates in Brighton took the view that he should be given a second chance after hearing his dog was “like his other half”.

Instead of ordering that the dog be put down, Drinkell was issued with a dog control order requiring Boo Boo to be muzzled and on a lead in public.

Drinkell broke this order on October 8 when Boo Boo was out of proper control at Finsbury Park railway station.

During the same incident, Drinkell assaulted two police officers and later a detention officer.

Drinkell pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a control of dog order and three counts of assaulting emergency workers.

But on Thursday (November 21) Drinkell, of Charlotte Street, Brighton, turned up for his sentencing hearing at Willesden Magistrates’ Court reportedly drunk, and was not allowed into the court room.

A police liaison officer told the court: “He’s kicked off downstairs at security and then again inside the building. He got very abusive towards staff who had to restrain him.

“He’s now been ejected from the building and security won’t let him back in.”

District Judge Holland took the view that Drinkell’s failure to appear in the dock was his own doing.

He therefore issued a warrant for his arrest.

Drinkell can hand himself in to the court to avoid being arrested by police, District Judge Miller said.
