A mum-of-two “screamed for help" while in tears as she was being mauled by an “out of control” dog outside her front door in Woolwich.
Izabela Pinkowska, who has lived in Eglington Road for 15-years with her daughters and husband, stepped outside into the shared balcony on her block and started to overlook onto the parking area to let builders in her home.
Looking to go back inside, the 48-year-old was left shocked as “out of nowhere” she was attacked by her neighbour’s dog, which she claims is an American Bulldog and half XL-Bully breed.
The News Shopper spoke to her daughter, Julia, who said that she witnessed the “horrific” attack from her bedroom window on November 13.
The 21-year-old said: “As my mum went to open the door to come back inside, she noticed the neighbour going outside with their dog.
“The dog was completely unprovoked, it had no leash nor a muzzle. It just went straight for my mum.
“All I could hear were screams. The most terrifying screams.”
Izabela fell to the ground as she was bitten on her upper left thigh and arms and despite her screaming, the dog continued to bite her, Julia added.
As Julia ran to the door to help her mum, she struggled to open the door as Izabela had already grabbed onto the handle.
Julia explained: “I know the screams were coming from my mum because I could hear the owner saying 'get off, get off’.
“I couldn’t open the door as my mum had gripped it that hard because she was in so much pain.
“My heart just dropped at that point. I didn’t know what to do. I was also shaking and started screaming.”
The dog was eventually pulled off Izabela by the owner, and she was left with blood dripping down her legs and arms.
Julia said her mum was left shaken and couldn’t form sentences together shortly after the brutal attack.
She added: “Luckily the neighbour was trying to pull the dog off. What if he wasn’t there?
“We’ve also got young children on the estate, what if the dog went for them instead?
“We called 999 and the police turned up first, then the paramedics. Even I wasn’t functioning properly, I was just trembling and didn’t know what to do.
“My mum was then taken to hospital, screaming in pure agony.”
Julia claims that the same dog that mauled her mum had previously attacked another neighbour and a post man.
She says that over the years neighbours have made complaints to Greenwich Council about the dog, but claims that no action was taken.
Julia explained: “We know that the dog is an American Bulldog, but we’ve also heard I could be a half XL-Bully.
“We’ve been living in fear since this has all happened. No one has listened to us and now it’s all lead to my mum being attacked.”
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police confirmed that they are still awaiting confirmation of the specific breed.
The dog has since been seized by police as an investigation is being carried out.
Izabela has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering from her injuries at home.
We had contacted Greenwich Council for a statement regarding the attack and the claims but have not received a response.
The full Metropolitan Police statement says: “At 8.02am on Wednesday, 13 November officers were called to Eglington Road, SE18 following reports that a woman had been attacked by a dog.
“Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics.
“The victim, a 48-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with injuries to her arms and legs.
“The dog was seized and an investigation is under way.”
