Two Croydon restaurants have won big at this year's Asian Curry Awards.

The awards, often referred to as the Curry Oscars, honour the finest in Asian cuisine, showcasing flavours from 16 diverse countries, including Bangladeshi, Filipino, Indian, and Chinese culinary traditions.

2024’s finalists were chosen from a shortlist of over 200 restaurants and takeaways and voted for by the public. 

The awards, which took place on November 17, crowned the winners across 75 awards, celebrating the best of the UK’s Asian food.

Here are all this year's Croydon winners:

 

Bengal Bliss

This Indian takeaway on 154 Brighton Road in Coulsdon won the Takeaway of the Year in the London Suburbs.

Its menu consists of many classic Indian delicacies, including the Bengal Bliss Special, which are tender pieces of chicken cooked in a medium sauce with mushrooms.

Another popular dish is the one simply labelled Honey, which is barbecued chicken or lamb cooked with cream and honey sauce.

A statement on the Bengal Bliss website says: “We are pleased to be one of the best Indian takeaways in Coulsdon with incredible food, polite and friendly staff, and great value for money.

“We highly suggest sampling our Chef's Special dishes and know you will enjoy every taste.

Bengal Bliss is open every day from 5pm to 11pm.

 

Curry Leaf

This Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant on 7 The Parade in Old Coulsdon was highly commended for the Asian Restaurant of the Year in the London Suburbs, and their chef won an award too.

Fardous Ahmed Bablu won the Asian Chef of the Year in the London Suburbs award.

Their menu includes classic Indian and Bangladeshi cuisines as well as unique fusions.

One of their highly commended dishes is the King Prawn Malabarai which includes jumbo-sized king prawns prepared with coconut, chopped coriander leaves, mustard seeds, tomatoes, onions and lemon juice.

Another is their new Agni Korahi, which is salmon cooked with sliced onions, and green and red peppers in a bhuna-style sauce.
