He famously ran a stall on Camden Market back in the 80s, now Soul II Soul star Jazzie B has returned to kick off the Christmas festivities at the popular shopping spot.

The DJ, producer, and proud Camden local welcomed guests - including the Mayor of Camden - on Thursday (November 28) as he turned on the festive tree and lights display.

There was live music from a gospel choir, a steel pan band, and roaming appearances from Santa, his elves, fairies, and a Snow Queen stilt walker.

This year, the market has put up two huge trees, one in Hawley Wharf, the other in Stables Market, a 'ceiling of light' above Water Lane, and five more Christmas trees decorated in bold colours of fuchsia pink, electric blue, and lime green.

The event marked the start of five weeks of activities at Camden Market, including a new Enchanted Ice Grotto in Waterside Halls filled with magical twinkling lights, a mirror ball and sleigh.

Visitors can enjoy face painting, art workshops, biscuit decorating and meet and greet Santa for £6 per child on selected dates in December.

Also throughout December there will be community choir performances of festive music in the Market Square including The Rock Choir on December 15, London City Voices on December 21, and The IDMC Gospel Soul Choir on December 22.

And on December 23 the Cheeky Meeky Festive Rave is a free event from 4pm to 6pm, when DJ Amika returns to Babylon Park Party Room with her line up of interactive family games, giveaways and fun dance routines.

A host of market stalls and food vendors also have special Christmas promotions or menu items over the festive period with further details at camdenmarket.com
