A primary school has been given an award for its efforts in using technology to enhance education.

Peareswood Primary School, part of the Woodland Academy Trust, has been recognised by Apple as an Apple Distinguished School for the 2024 to 2027 programme term.

Peareswood is the first school in Bexley to receive this accolade, which is handed out to schools that show "innovation, leadership, and educational excellence using technology".

This comes after the school's "seamless" integration of iPad devices and Apple apps into its learning approach.

Carla Ferla, headteacher of Peareswood Primary, said: "I am delighted Peareswood Primary has been awarded the prestigious title of Apple Distinguished School.

"This incredible achievement reflects the unwavering dedication and ambition of our team to provide the very best for our children, as well as the enthusiastic engagement of our children and wider school community.

"By embracing Apple technology, we’ve created an environment where our young learners not only thrive but are empowered with the tools to excel in the digital age.

"This recognition highlights our commitment to closing the digital divide and ensuring every child has access to opportunities for success."

The Apple Distinguished School status is given to schools that demonstrate a commitment to continuous innovation in education, using Apple products to inspire, imagine, and impact teaching and learning.

These institutions are seen as centres of leadership and educational excellence, with a clear vision of how technology-rich environments support learning goals.

The initiative is part of a global effort to transform education through technology, with schools around the world using iPads and Macs to enhance learning.

Julie Carson, director of education for Woodland Academy Trust, said: "I am thrilled that one of our Trust schools has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School.

"This achievement highlights our collective commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in education.

"By integrating Apple technology, we are enhancing the learning experience for students, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

"This recognition is a reflection of the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students as we embrace forward-thinking approaches across our schools."

The school says it is "delighted" with the award and plans to continue using technology to inspire and develop its students.

It prides itself on being a nurturing and inclusive community, committed to developing every aspect of its pupils.

The school values its relationship with the wider community and works collaboratively with families, parents, and carers to provide opportunities for all children.
