The Ealing-born drummer for one of the most influential musicians ever has died.
Mitch Mitchell. The Drummer in the Jimmy Hendrix experience band was found dead in a hotel room in Portland, USA.
It is believed he died of natural causes, although a post mortem will be carried out later today.
He is best known for his work on Hendrix classics including Voodoo Child, and played on albums Axis Bold as Love, Electric Ladyland and Are You Experienced?
After Hendrix's death in 1970 he plied his trade as a session drummer with artists like John Lennon, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards.
He was in the midst of the Hendrix Experience tour, travelling coast-to-coast in America playing to more than 50,000 fans.
