A grandmother has spoken of her horror after she saw her 18-year-old cat mauled to death by three dogs.

Patricia Treeweek says her cat was sat on the window sill at the front of their house in Trenholme Road, Anerley, when three dogs jumped over their garden fence and pounced on her.

The 63-year-old says Mitzi died in her lap after the tanned, light-brown dogs, thought to be Staffordshire Bull Terriers, savaged the cat at around 12.30pm on Thursday (Nov 13).

She said: “They were like lions. I heard my cat screaming so I opened the door and saw three dogs in the garden all over her.

“One had her in the recycling bin, her neck was hanging out and these dogs were attacking her.

“They mauled her to death, the three of them.”

Two boys who appeared to be with the dogs then cycled by.

The former accounts manager said: “I screamed at them, ‘Get your dogs off my cat’.

“One of the boys picked up one of the dogs and the other two vanished. I called out to them but they ran off.”

Mrs Treeweek had had Mitzi since she was a kitten, and says dogs need to be kept under control.

She said: “She meant everything to me.

“I want the people responsible to know what their dogs have done.

“My grandchildren often played with the cat in the garden. It would have been horrific if they had been there.”

The attack on Mrs Treeweek’s cat came the day after the London Assembly unanimously backed a motion to call on the Mayor to tackle aggressive dogs attacking members of the public and other animals.

London Assembly representative for Lambeth and Southwark, Val Shawcross, who proposed the motion, said: “We see dog attacks reported in our local papers week after week.

“Unless firm action is taken against owners who are deliberately training their dogs to behave aggressively the number of attacks will continue to rise.”

Police confirmed the incident had been reported and that they will be visiting Mrs Treeweek.
