Residents are being asked for their comments and ideas on how the borough can enjoy an Olympics to remember in 2012.

Enfield Council issued its draft Olympics Strategy this week and the public is encouraged to help set the priorities by putting forward their ideas.

Councillor Jon Kaye said: “Our vision for the Games is to ensure that both the London 2021 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are remembered not just for providing the best ever sporting and cultural festival, but also for bringing the best ever legacy that meets local expectations — so we really want to get as many local views as possible.”

The London 2012 Olympic committee has said its ambition is to create a Games for everyone, where everyone is invited to take part, join in and enjoy the most exciting event in the world, and the council wants to reflect this in its own Olympic strategy.

The draft strategy aims to encourage greater volunteering in all age groups, getting local schools involved with learning about the Games, and bringing the community together through sport.

Cllr Kaye added: “Already young people have been inspired by the performances of British atheletes who did so well at Beijing and many are working hard to do well in sports and cultural activities.

“Our draft strategy is just the start of a programme of activity to enhance our borough and excite the enthusiam of all residents.”

Southgate Hockey Club, in Snakes Lane, Barnet, was successful in its bid to be included in the 'Pre-Games Training Camp Guide'.

It hopes to attract a visiting international team to train at the club in the run up to the Games.

Elizabeth Moss, Sports Manager at the club, said: "If we get a country which is outgoing and interested in creating links with us and getting involved in school visits and open days, it will have a beneficial impact on us and on the community.

“In the run up to the Games we're hoping to get kids interested in hockey and generate some hockey excitement.”

Residents should send their comments to Simon Gardner, Olympic Consultation, 9th Floor, Civic Centre, Silver Street, Enfield, EN1 3XA, or email simon.gardner@enfield.gov.uk.
