Increases in train fares will hit commuters travelling from Elstree & Borehamwood and Radlett stations next year.
First Capital Connect (FCC) is increasing its ticket prices by six per cent - one per cent above the rate of inflation. The new prices will take effect from January 2, 2009.
The train operator said the price increases are in line with other train operators across the country and would go towards station improvements on the Thameslink route.
A spokesman for the Association of Train Operating Companies, said: “Train operators are currently carrying out work to introduce new trains, refurbish existing fleets and improve stations. These measures will benefit passengers through more reliable and comfortable journeys, improved station facilities (including more car and cycle parking) and better personal security.”
Also from next month a new timetable will come into force meaning from Elstree & Borehamwood and Radlett stations there will be four trains an hour running between 7pm and 10pm calling at all stops between London and St Albans.
FCC is advising commuters to check the new timetable, which will come into place on Sunday December 14, before travel. The new times will be available at stations from this weekend.
