An inclusive theatre company is guaranteeing 2009 London marathon places for volunteers willing to raise £1,300.
The money raised will help support the 800 youngsters who attend Chickenshed theatre groups each week.
Chickenshed, based in Rayne Theatre, Chase Side, is an all-inclusive theatre to which everyone regardless of age or ability is welcome.
The charity runs a children's and youth theatre for 800 young people, operates three nationally accredited education courses, engages in community outreach projects and has established a growing network of satellite “sheds” across the country, plus two in Russia.
It has produced more than 1,000 dance, music and drama performances since it was founded in 1974.
A theatre spokesman said: “Our Golden Bond Runners are asked to raise £1,300. There are no administrative costs as our co-ordinators are volunteers.
“We ask you to raise less than other national charities so you can spend more time concentrating on training.
“The money raised will form an important part of Chickenshed’s fundraising income, which helps to support over 1,000 young people each week to access theatre.
“Chickenshed is an inspirational theatre company that produces the most beautiful and memorable performances by working on the basis that everyone and anyone should be included, regardless of their background, age, race or ability."
The London Flora Marathon takes place on April 26, 2009. Anyone interested should contact Chickenshed marathon co-ordinators Adrian Hegarty or Maria Duke at marathon@chickenshed.org.uk
