A driver has been given a six-year prison sentence after causing a crash which killed a toddler on the M25 near Crockenhill.

John James Woolston, of Windham Road, East Ham, was sentenced today after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving by a jury at Maidstone Crown Court on October 28.

Two-year-old Danyal Razzaq was travelling with his family on the M25 on July 14 when a Hummer stretch limousine collided with their car.

The family were on their way from their home in Hampton, Middlesex, to visit relatives in Gravesend.

Danyal’s father, mother and brother were taken to Darent Valley Hospital for treatment after the crash, but the toddler died at the scene.

The jury heard 40-year-old Woolston, who was driving the limousine, did not slow down as traffic on the carriageway approached roadworks.

His limousine collided with seven vehicles. It hit the rear of the Razzaq family’s Renault Clio, and travelled over the top of it.

Eight other people were injured in the incident, including a pregnant woman who escaped with minor injuries.

Inspector Paul Sellwood, from Kent police, said: ‘I’m very pleased with today’s sentence, not least because it brings this very tragic case to a close.

“This has been a meticulous and difficult investigation for Kent police. Difficult because someone lost their life and that always has a devastating impact on so many people.

“But when that person is a young child, in this case a two-year-old boy, it is even more emotional for family and friends, and also for the officers working on the case.

“Many officers have young children of their own and dealing with parents’ grief, while running an investigation, has a huge impact.”
