A Colindale police instructor nicknamed “Randy Dan” has lost his job training new recruits after taking his pseudonym a step too far.

PC Daniel Rands, 32, was hauled before Metropolitan Police bosses after sending a mobile phone video to a 25-year-old trainee, which showed him pleasuring himself.

News of the clip spread around Hendon Police College, in Aerodrome Road, Hendon, after the red-faced rookie showed it to some friends.

Many at the site, including receptionists, guards and passers-by, had heard about the incident but most declined to comment.

A male trainee constable, who asked not to be named, said: “I know the guy and I feel really bad for him. It was a private message and he didn’t mean to expose himself to the world.

“I can’t imagine how he must be feeling now. If their relationship survives it’ll be a miracle. But there’s definitely a big lesson to be learnt from this — if you want to have fun with yourself, do it in your own time and don’t record it for posterity.”

Passer-by Daniel Richards, 41, from Vivian Avenue, Hendon, also felt sympathy for the ballsy bobby.

He said: “It sounds like the girl has just as much to answer for as he does. If my girlfriend did that I’d never forgive her — not that it was such a sensible thing to do, of course.

"I’d advise him to try to keep his private parts private from now on.”

Mr Rands has now been reposted for falling “well short of standards”.

He escaped more serious punishment because he was believed to have been in a relationship with the trainee and the video, which followed a series a saucy texts, was not completely unsolicited.

Police Federation officials called in to represent Mr Rands declined to view the video.

A Met spokesman said: “The MPS expects its staff and officials to behave professionally, ethically and with the utmost integrity at all times. PC Rands fell well short of our standards.

“His behaviour was entirely unacceptable and we immediately removed him from recruit training.

“He is currently being reposted and will not be involved in recruit training in the future.”

The trainee has not been identified.
