A mother is accused of inflicting fatal injuries on her baby son.
Three-month-old Joseph Kompus died after his mother Maria Kompusova, 22, called an ambulance to their home in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, in September 2007 because the baby had stopped breathing.
Doctors then found that Joseph had previous injuries, including a fractured skull.
Sally Howes, prosecuting, told the jury that Joseph died of brain damage caused by an assault by his mother.
The trial at the the Old Bailey heard doctors found evidence of serious brain injuries similar to the type of injury received in a car accident or a fall from a first-floor window.
Miss Howes told the jury that Joseph's injuries, estimated to have been caused four days earlier, were not accidental.
Ms Kompusova denies murder.
The trial continues.
