Dozens of campaigners dressed at Gordon Brown braved the cold to protest against a planned third runway at Heathrow on Saturday.

Protesters donned masks of the Prime Minister along with fake ears to demonstrate their anger at the expansion proposals.

More than 100 people converged at Lampton Park in Hounslow to make their voices heard.

Among them were representatives of the Richmond Society, Save Cherry Lane Cemetery - a group dedicated to saving a Hillingdon burial site under threat from expansion - and the Green Party.

Susan Kramer, Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park also attended and gave a clear message to Gordon Brown.

She said: "We know the Government is likely to make a decision on Heathrow and rather dread it is going to be an approval for expansion in spite of all the evidence of climate change. The Government is being stubborn.

"We are opposed to Heathrow expansion as it does not make sense. We are staying here, if they think the fight is over they are so wrong."

John Stewart, chairman of HACAN and organiser of the protest, said: "Today was a huge success it just showed how much anger there is at the proposals, people are really fed-up. Already people feel there is far too much noise over their heads and the proposals mean almost a doubling.

"It’s unacceptable."

Government ministers are expected to make a decision of Heathrow expansion in the next few weeks.

Mr Steward added he is planning a flash mob event on the first Saturday after the decision if it goes against them at midday at Terminal 5.

BAA, Heathrow’s owners, have said if expansion is allowed they will accept an independent body with the power to limit flights to protect the environment.
