Police last night arrested an 18-year-old youth in connection with the shooting of Ricardo Cox.

The youth was arrested in the Tulse Hill area at 9pm.

He is currently in custody at a south London police station.

Police were called to Mitcham Road, Croydon at 9.20pm on Wednesday to reports of a man suffering gunshot wounds.

A dark coloured car pulled up alongside Ricardo and a number of shots were fired.

He was found at the corner of Mitcham Road and Derby Road and had been shot twice in the abdoman.

He was rushed to St George's Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A post mortem gave a cause of death as a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

An incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Damian Allain.

The car, which had a number of occupants, then drove off along Mitcham Road. It is possible it was travelling in tandem with another car. The second car is described as light coloured, possibly silver.

DCI Allain, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "Information about this vehicle is absolutely vital for the enquiry.

“There are a number of distinctive features about it that would make it recognisable, including the replacement tyre and the missing lower bumper.

"The car will be thoroughly searched and subjected to forensic examination and we would urge anyone connected with it to contact the incident team.

Anyone who can assist is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4805 or if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111."
