The 21-year-old who died under a lift shaft in the Cambridge Gardens Estate yesterday morning has been named locally as Patrick Katende.

A shrine to the 21-year-old has been started by the North Wing doors of the estate which has been inundated with flowers, cards, teddy bears and a signed basketball.

Some of the tributes refer to Mr Katende’s street name, Pistol P and a group on the social networking site Facebook already has 380 members and 100 messages.

Police were called to the estate yesterday morning at 5.38am to reports of a burglary in progress at a computer shop in Cambridge Road.

They arrested two men and a women nearby.

Police then received a second call at 7.05am to reports of a male stuck in a lift shaft.

When they arrived they found a body in the shaft and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police investigation into whether the incidents are connected is ongoing and a post mortem examination is due to take place today.

One tribute at the site read: “Dear Patrick. What a waste. I can’t believe that it’s happened to you.

“I’m going to miss you and that lovely smile of yours. And your funny dance moves! God Bless.”

Another read: “Patrick, you was my boy. I will never forget ya and the good times we had. Love ya. Frank.”

A message left on the Facebook group said: “Pat I'm sure none of us could sleep last night without sheddin a tear.

“None of us know how to say goodbye to such a sweet guy and its still hard to believe we not gonna see u again or not gonna speak to u again.
