British Transport Police are urging rail passengers to be vigilant against crime on London’s trains this Christmas.

Police officers will be patrolling stations and travelling on trains providing advice on crime reduction to the thousands of people using the rail network throughout the festive season.

Christmas-themed postcards aim to ensure passengers don’t fall victim to pickpockets and thieves. The cards also urge passengers who are attending Christmas parties to check their journey times and plan their route home.

London south acting Superintendent Jim Little said: “Our message is a sobering one. If you’ve been shopping, ensure your belongings are safe and be aware of thieves operating in crowded carriages.

"If you chose to have a drink, don’t overindulge and treat other passengers and staff with respect.

“We want people to enjoy themselves, but most importantly to get home safely."
