Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond claimed to have won a “major concession” from the Government over plans to reduce Thameslink train services in and out of Wimbledon.
From 2015 Wimbledon trains currently stopping at St Pancras will terminate at Blackfriars.
But following a meeting with Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, Network Rail are being forced to reconsider axing the service and see if the full route can be included in new time tables.
Mr Hammond said: “It may seem like this takes effect a long time from now, but we have to take a stand because in 2010 it will be too late.
“The current service is of real importance to the people of Wimbledon and South West London, so this concession is a hugely significant.”
The current service allows passengers from Morden South, South Merton, Wimbledon Chase, Wimbledon and Haydons Road to travel to the city and St Pancras directly.
