The teenage girl who died in a road collision on Friday has been named as Christina Browne. The 17-year-old, of St Martin’s Close, Enfield, died when the car she was a passenger in collided with a tree on Great Cambridge Road.
Eye-witnesses said the impact sent the vehicle spinning across the carriageway into another sapling, and it came to rest close by.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 19-year-old man, was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter. He is understood to be in a critical condition.
The incident happened at 1.40pm, close to Yews Avenue.
Firecrews used specialist hydralic cutting equipment to free the two teenagers from the wrecked yellow Ford Fiesta.
Early reports from the scene suggested that no other vehicle was believed to be involved.
But this week police said they believed the yellow Fiesta may have been in collision with a black Vauxhall Astra before careering off the road.
The Great Cambridge Road was closed throughout Friday night while collision investigation teams carried out their work.
A post mortem on Miss Browne at Hornsey Mortuary on Tuesday gave cause of death as multiple injuries.
A friend has paid tribute to the Enfield teenager on the Enfield Independent’s website.
Calling himself Daniel, the poster wrote: “We all knew her and she was a very special person. She was loved by all her friends and family, I was happy to know a girl like her as we had some good times together. I will surely miss her loads. Gone from down here, but not gone from my heart: R.I.P Chrissy.”
Police have appealed to motorists and residents who saw the tragedy to contact them with information.
Anyone with information should call the North East collision investigation unit on 0208 597 4874 .
