THE family of a man who collapsed and died after an alleged road rage confrontation with the driver of a Rolls Royce have spoken about their loss of a "loving, caring and supportive husband".

Ronald Doran, 80, of Park Road, East Molesey, was a passenger in the Vauxhall Astra driven by his wife Maureen at 10.30am last Thursday when it collided with the open door of a Rolls Royce outside Oddbins in Walton Road.

After an alleged row, Mr Doran went into the nearby HSBC bank where he collapsed and died.

"Ronald was a loving, caring and supportive husband to me for 48 years," said Mrs Doran, in a family statement.

"He was a man who had a passion for life, reading and the quest for knowledge.

"He had an extraordinary ability for DIY, but not clearing up afterwards! He was always willing to help anybody in any way."

Five police cars and one helicopter were called to the scene and an ambulance took Mr Doran to Kingston Hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Russell said: "We are particularly interested in speaking to two women, one of whom was pushing a child's buggy, down Walton Road towards the police station.

"They witnessed the incident and spoke to Mr Doran before he collapsed."

A 54-year-old man from East Molesey was arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail until September 22.
