A LORRY driver has been arrested after a motorway smash which killed four people.
The 54-year-old man from Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the accident involving a lorry and a car on the M25 yesterday.
He was treated at the Princess Royal Univerity Hospital, Farnborough, for chest injuries and shock before being arrested.
Two adults and two children in the car, believed to be from south London, died. Their identities have not yet been revealed.
The accident happened around 10.30am, just before junction five anti-clockwise on the way to the Dartford Tunnel when a Foden large goods vehicle collided with a Volkswagon car.
The M25 was re-opened after the vehicles were recovered and repairs were carried out to the road.
Officers from Kent's serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses.
Sergeant Nick Silvester from the unit said: "Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this collision, in which four people, including two children, died.
"We would also like to speak to anyone who saw the red Foden large goods vehicle and blue Volkswagen car being driven on the motorway before the collision."
Anyone with information is asked to call the serious collision witness line on 01622 798538.
