Attended school for exceptional intelligence, own clothing range, produced one song in five in last year's charts - Pharrell Williams' CV is hotter than the London Underground at rush hour.

And his solo release In My Mind reaches similar temperatures. It blends stand-out hits such as Angel, where Pharrell tests his goose-pimpling falsetto, You Got It Like That featuring Gwen Stefani where the thumping bass makes your ribs rattle and Number One with uber cool sidekick Kanye West lending his grime rhymes to the mix - with personal songs and raps he has plucked from "in his mind".

Once inside his head - chisled with cheekbones sharp enough to cut your fingers on - you find his thoughts centre around subjects such as money-grabbing gold diggers versus take-home-to-your momma girls in Raspy and fulfilling your potential in You Can Do It Too.

And although I'd be the last to complain about getting to know Pharrell a little better, it is not really clear whether he wants to let us all in to his world or keep everyone out.

Despite this album exploring his views and insights, he often refers to himself as Skateboard P - this could be a way of showing he's rooted in the street and not all yachts and limousines or a Puff Diddy/ Daddy/Divvy way of preventing people knowing the real him.

And although not as good as his NERD projects, who cares?

With a list of contributors which reads like the roll call for rap royalty - Kanye West, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Nelly and Jamie Cullum (what?) - one thing is for sure, Pharrell is more than worth his weight in bling.
