A body found in the river is believed to be a university lecturer whose boat capsized nearly a month ago.
A member of Elmbridge Canoe Club in Weybridge called the police at 10.15am yesterday after seeing the body in the Thames.
It is believed to be University of Cambridge lecturer Dr Rex Walford, 70, who disappeared on January 2 after a party on Pharaoh's Island, in Shepperton.
The body of his friend Keith Lowde, 66, who lived on the island was found the next day.
Video footage of the police search carried out earlier this month:
Mr Lowde was believed to have been taking his wife and two other couples a short distance from his home to the bank at Shepperton in Surrey when the small vessel turned over.
The other passengers made it to shore with minor injuries.
A spokesman said: "Surrey Police can confirm the body of a man has been recovered from the River Thames at Weybridge.
"Officers were alerted to the discovery close to the Elmbridge Canoe Club at 10:15am on Sunday Jan 30 by a member of the public.
"The body was recovered and taken to St Peter's Hospital at Chertsey."
A post mortem will take place in the next few days
