A WOMAN found out she was adopted and that her ice skating coach was her real mother after taking part in a radio competition.

Twenty-year-old Londoner Lizzie Dennis made the stunning discovery while trying to win tickets to a Rolling Stones concert on Xfm.

Listeners were asked to text anyone in their mobile phone book: "I've just heard a rumour about you, guess what it is?"

The person with the best response won tickets to the concert.

When Ms Dennis sent the text to her close friend and coach, Katrina, she got the remarkable text which changed her life.

"I was going to tell you soon. But you're old enough now to know. I was just waiting for the right time," the text from Katrina said.

"It was a stupid mistake a long time ago, but looking at you now I don't regret it all."

She then phoned her daughter and explained the truth.

Ms Dennis told DJ Richard Bacon that she had just found out that she was put up for adoption aged four.

"So until this afternoon you didn't know you were adopted," Bacon said.

"Na-ah," she said. "It's awesome - now I've got two families!"

Bacon added: "Well not only have you got Rolling Stones tickets, you've also got a new mum. That's possibly the best prize that a radio station has ever given away!"

Ms Dennis said she told her adopted mother that she had discovered the truth.

"She was waiting for my mum to tell me because she didn't think it was right for her to bring it up," she said.
