More than 30 homophobic attacks have been reported since an innovative scheme was set up in Chiswick to tackle hate crime against gay, bisexual and transsexual residents.
An i-kiosk information system was installed at the Birdcage pub on Chiswick High Road three months ago to allow victims to report attacks or abuse without having to go to the police.
It is the first time that an i-kiosk has been used for this purpose anywhere in Britain.
Simon Mitchell, head of the west London Gay Men's Project which manages the system, said: "I am pleased with the response the kiosk has had in its initial three months. The number of reports we have received is far more than we would normally receive through our helpline."
A total of 36 homophobic incidents have so far been recorded at the pub. The system allows people to request police involvement if they wish to pursue the case further, but the main aim was to build-up a better picture of the level of this hate crime in Hounslow.
It is now set to be moved to the Windsor Castle pub in Bath Road, Hounslow.
