Two men have been fined hundreds of pounds each after they pleaded guilty to illegally dumping waste in Sutton.

Steven Cornell, of Milton Road, admitted fly-tipping waste at Sherwood Court in Sutton on March 23, at a hearing held at Sutton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 3.

He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 towards costs.

A second man, Bobby Staussi-Chivers, of Fowler Road, Mitcham, also admitted flytipping offences at the same hearing.

Staussi-Chivers was fined £500 and ordered to pay £100 costs for illegally dumping waste at the former Pobjoy Mint site in Oldfields Road on April 2.

Colin Hall, lead councillor for the environment, said: "Sutton Council is taking a zero-tolerance approach towards fly-tipping.

"These people show no regard for our environment and they should be duly punished when caught.

"I am pleased that we are taking such a proactive approach in catching these people.

"However, I would like to see tougher penalties introduced, so we can really send a strong message to the public that we're serious about tackling this ugly problem."
