The body of a newborn baby girl may have been dumped in a bin in public toilets at Heathrow Airport, police have said.
Staff of a hygiene waste company discovered the little body as they emptied clinical waste bins at around 10.30am on Monday.
Police have since cordoned off the lavatories near the Terminal 3 departure gates.
Detectives are now looking for the mother, who may have flown out of the UK. They will study CCTV footage and interview airport staff.
Police are treating the child's death as "suspicious", a Met spokeswoman said.
A post mortem, scheduled at Great Ormond Street Hospital on Wednesday, will establish the precise age of the girl, whether she was alive when dumped and how she died.
