ST ALBANS MP Anne Main is supporting a policy document launched by Tory leader David Cameron to define the party's aims and values.

The document, entitled Built to Last, has been published as part of Mr Cameron's drive to modernise the Conservative Party and will be voted on by the entire membership.

Mrs Main said: "I welcome the proposals David Cameron has announced, including increasing support for shared ownership schemes to help people onto the housing ladder and giving local people a greater say on where we build new homes. Our country needs a new direction and new answers to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

"I particularly support the call for a responsibility revolution - giving individuals across St Albans and Hertfordshire the skills and resources to take control of their life, encouraging business to enhance our environment and giving local neighbourhoods and communities the power to improve our quality of life."

The document outlines more than 50 proposals, including better drug rehabilitation, less regulation of business and scrapping plans for identity cards.
