Architectural gems across Haringey will soon be opening up to the public as part of London Open House 2006.
The event, set up by the charity Open House, will see architecturally important buildings across the borough opening to the public on the weekend of September 16 and 17.
One planned special event is an exhibition at Marcus Garvey Library, in the Tottenham Green Centre, Tottenham. The library will be hosting a display of drawings and plans for the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, which is set to be a new centre of excellence for the arts in Tottenham.
Another landmark hoping to pull in the crowds is Bruce Castle, in Lordship Lane, which will be hosting a series of guided tours over the weekend.
And one new building that is aiming to impress is the Northumberland Park Neighbourhood Resource Centre, at 177 Park Lane, Northumberland Park. The building's architects were named Practice of the Year by Building Magazine in 2005.
Other buildings set to open to the public include the New River Village housing development, in High Street, Hornsey; the Tower Gardens Estate in Tower Gardens Road and the Old Schoolhouse, at 136 Tottenham Lane, which now functions as the headquarters of the Hornsey Historical Society.
Two church buildings will also be opening to the public: the Victorian church of St Augustine of Canterbury, in Langdon Park, Road, and the churchyard of St Mary's, in Hornsey High Street, which is home to the tower of a late medieval parish church.
