Nearly 20,000 properties in Enfield are at risk from flooding according to the Environment Agency.
The agency is concerned that residents do not realise the danger of flooding in the borough and its flood incident management team will be at the Enfield Town Autumn Show to fill people in on how to prepare.
Flood incident management team leader Lee James said: "We are encouraging people who live or work near flooding danger zones to find out more about the simple measures that can prevent or reduce any damage. For example, it doesn't cost anything to register to receive flood warnings, but it could make a huge difference in reducing damage to valuables if they are moved to safety. If anyone is in any doubt about whether they are at risk or what they should do before, during and after a flood, please come along and see us at the Autumn Show."
The Autumn Show takes place on Saturday 9, and Sunday 10 September, in Town Park, Essex Road, Enfield. The agency will be giving out leaflets, and information on how to make a flood plan. Maps will be on display and staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
The country has experienced particularly erratic weather recently with the driest July on record followed by a wet August.
