Lambeth Council has been cracking down on housing benefit cheats - sentencing fraudsters in Streatham and Tulse Hill at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court.
Mohammed Rahim of Streatham High Road was sentenced to a 200-hour community punishment order after the council discovered he had obtained £6,981 of housing benefit by deception, did not declare his status as a student or his earnings from a job at Tesco.
Nancy Selby from Tulse Hill Estate was also punished by the council's in-house fraud and investigation team.
She was ordered to serve 100 hours of community service and had to pay costs of £100 for receiving £16,175 of housing and council tax benefit by deception.
