THE LAST word in great 80s music? While there are better compilations out there (The Hits/The B-Sides is more comprehensive and cheaper), there can be little quibbling with the quality of the songs.
From the early hits, through to masterpieces such as Sign O'The Times and Alphabet Street, Prince was on fire. There are some odd omissions, Kiss the most obvious (it's only on the remix disc) and few would class Money Don't Matter 2 Night as essential. The incessant My Name Is Prince signalled the start of a long decline as ego finally overcame natural genius.
By all accounts he's back. The second disc of remixes are excellent, including the hard-to-get She's Always In My Hair, and demonstrate the sheer inventiveness of the man. Collections such as this mean he is probably destined to be remembered at karaoke evenings; Prince deserves better.
