Hounslow's MPs have expressed their concerns about the months of aeroplane noise residents will suffer as work is carried out on a runway at Heathrow.

Last week, British Airport Authorities (BAA) announced there will be no runway alternation at Heathrow for 10 weeks from September 10 as maintenance is carried out on the northern runway.

From 6am to 11pm every day, Hounslow residents living under the flight path will get no respite from the roar of aeroplanes overhead as the majority of flights are forced to land on the northern runway.

It is feared that those living in areas near the airport, including Heston and Cranford, will be the worst hit.

Alan Keen, MP for Feltham and Heston, said: "While residents understand the importance of the airport maintaining modern operational and security standards, the impact on residents who will no longer enjoy any respite from aircraft noise while the airport is on westerly operations will be huge, and it is most important the disturbance and discomfort caused is kept to a minimum."

Mr Keen said he has written to the chief executive officer of BAA Heathrow to convey his concerns.

In his letter, the MP urged BAA to complete the repair works as soon as possible.

Mr Keen added: "I will continue to represent my constituents to ensure runway alternation continues at Heathrow, something that I have been campaigning for over a long period of time."
