Barking and Dagenham has the highest rate of mortgage possession claims in England and Wales with 1.84 per 1,000 households, new figures show.
The number of possession claims on properties in the east London borough during the third quarter of 2011 was 125, a 24% rise on the same period last year.
The figures released by the Ministry of Justice show Bexley had an even bigger year-on-year rise at 26%, with 110 mortage possession claims during the quarter, but it's rate per 1,000 households was lower at 1.18.
The Royal Borough of Richmond upon Thames on the other hand showed the biggest improvement for London, with a 54% year-on-year drop in mortgage possession claims for the quarter at just 20.
