Youngsters have launched a scheme to raise money for African communities without access to clean water.
It was launched by Year 8 girls at St Matthew Academy in St Joseph’s Vale, Blackheath, on November 20.
They had to come up with ways to sell bottles of One Water, profits of which go towards buying water pumps in Africa, while minimising their environmental impact.
Ideas included a pop concert and a fashion show using clothes made from plastic bottles.
Among the guests at the school were project founder Duncan Goose and Minister for the Third Sector Kevin Brennan MP.
School principal Monica Cross said: “There is nothing more basic in life than the importance of clean fresh water.
“Social enterprise fits in with our ethos as a Catholic school to make sure all the students have a sense of ethics.”
The project is also run by the Government’s Make Your Mark enterprise campaign.
