TWINS who received their GCSE results on Thursday have stunned teachers and classmates with record-breaking scores.

Andrew and Jonathan Hackett, 16, pupils of Elthorne Park High School in Hanwell achieved 20 A* grades and two A grades between them.

It was Jonathan, the younger twin by eight minutes, who was the top performer with straight A*s in all 11 subjects.

He said: "I'm really proud. I expected to do well but never thought I'd get all A*s.

"There was definitely a bit of competition between us.

"I always thought I'd beat my brother though."

As an added incentive the boys were offered a computer console if they did well.

Andrew said: "We struck a deal with our parents that if we got no Bs between us they's have to buy us a Playstation 3, and they cost about £500.

"I thought I might get a B in French but I'm so glad I didn't now.

"But I feel so ashamed that I lost to my brother."

The brothers will now go on to Richmond College as Elthorne Park has no sixth form.

Jonathan wants to study the international baccalaureate instead of traditional A-levels.

"If you get top grades in that then it is more highly thought of than A levels," he said.

"I don't know if A levels are hard enough. I want to do better."

As the school's top performer, Jonathan said the trick to his success was last-minute cramming.

"I didn't do anything special when revising," he said, "but I did a lot of work right before the exams."

Headteacher Mohamed Sabur said he was delighted for the twins.

"They are a reminder of what can be achieved with a bit of application," he said.

"They have been serious students all the way.

"They have been focussed and there is probably a lesson for other students that if you work hard there is no limit to what you can achieve."
