Founded in 1889, Brentford FC reached the English First Division at the end of the 1946-47 season. After a string of relegations and promotions, they ended up in the EFL Championship for the first time in 2015. Ivan Toney starred in the 2019-20 season scoring a penalty in the play-off final and finishing as the leagues’s top scorer.
As of late, Brentford FC have had quite a jovial start in their return to the Premier League. A dominant 2-0 win, against quite a talented Arsenal side, highlighted their potential in the first game of the 2021-22 season. A 0-0 and 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace FC and Aston Villa FC respectively, meant that they were sat in the top half of the Premier Legaue table (with 5 points) in early September.
The £180 million squad have never failed to deliver in big games this season. Most notably and recently, a thrilling 3-3 draw against 2019-20 Premier League champions Liverpool, had most fans scratching their heads. The captain, Pontus Jansson, and goalkeeper, David Raya, have been leading the defence so far this season, with the Christian Nørgaard and Sergí Canos blooming in midfield. Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbuemo have been quite shy of goals (as of 19th October 2021), but many sports fans and pundits believe that this is likely to change.
Due to his commendable leadership, Thomas Frank became the first manager, after Harry Curtis in 1935, to guide Brentford into the Premier League. Many Brentford fans will be hoping that he stays for the long haul.
