Australia Victorious at the Cricket World Cup -

The much awaited Cricket World Cup final took place on the 19th November. The fearsome match up between Australia and India was bound to draw attention from all across the globe. Heading into the final, India were the firm favourites - having the sublime support of their home crowd as well as carrying a perfect record throughout their campaign. On the other hand, the Australians had quite a slow start to their World cup, losing their first couple of games. However, the former 5 time world champions wiped away any hint of doubt with a series of stunning performances to lead them to 2nd on the table.

The highly anticipated game started off with Australia winning the toss and opting to field. The Indian batting lineup had an abundance of talent that (so far) had obliterated the bowling attack from every other team in the tournament. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kholi gave the team a sense of experience and skill, whereas others like Shubman Gill gave the team a more youthful and unorthodox angle. Therefore, taking all these factors into account, it came as a massive surprise to see the Indian team get bowled out for an insubstantial 240 runs.

At this point of the contest, the odds swung heavily for Australia. There was a glimmer of hope for the Indians as they took 3 early wickets into Australia’s innings, however an awe-inspiring knock from Travis Head (who scored 137 runs) took the game beyond the grasp of the Indian Team. The underwhelming score set was chased comfortably within 43 overs and Australia were crowned world champions, leaving the Indians devastated and heartbroken - knowing that they had squandered a golden opportunity to perpetual glory.
