United States National Team goalkeeper Matt Turner has joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest.

Turner provides much-needed cover for Oliver Glasner’s side, who were left with just two senior goalkeepers after Sam Johnstone joined Wolves for £10 million.

The shot-stopper signed for Nottingham Forest from Arsenal last summer, making 17 Premier League appearances for the Reds, eventually being pipped to the starting spot by Matz Sels during the second half of last season.

DEADLINE DAY LATEST

Crystal Palace’s newest recruit fell down the pecking order at Forest, with Belgian international Sels and Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel preferred.

Penning a straight loan without an option or obligation to buy, Turner unites with Dean Henderson and Remi Matthews in Dean Kiely’s goalkeeper's department.

The 30-year-old is not eligible to be involved in Crystal Palace’s matchday squad for their match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Completing his loan move, Turner said: "I'm really excited to be here – and I'm ready to get to work.

"I've heard a lot about [goalkeeping coach] Dean Kiely from Wayne Hennessey, and obviously Dean [Henderson] and Remi [Matthews] have got a lot of experience, so it'll be great to get to know them, learn how they work, support them in whatever ways I can, but also push them to be the best versions of themselves."

Chairman Steve Parish shared: “It is vitally important in any squad to have competition for places, and Matt – with his experience of the Premier League and at international level – represents an excellent addition to our goalkeeping ranks this season. We look forward to working with him at Palace.”
