Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner revealed that Adam Wharton will remain with the squad for the next three games before deciding whether to undergo surgery.

Wharton, 20, has been struggling with a groin issue which first flared up during this summer's European Championships. The midfielder has racked up 558 minutes this season, relying on painkillers to get through games.

In an attempt to manage his minutes, Wharton was an unused substitute for Palace as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Ahead of facing Tottenham on Sunday, Glasner admitted that Wharton will remain in the Palace squad.

“We are discussing [whether to send him for surgery], and when we take the final decision we will inform you,” Glasner shared.

“At the moment he will be with us for at least the next week. We have three games: we play on Sunday against Tottenham, we play on Wednesday against Aston Villa and then the Wolves away game.

“He will be with us for the next three games and then we will see what happens.”

Glasner added that his side face no new fitness concerns. However, Cheick Doucoure, who returned to training this week, remains unavailable.

“The same squad is available as on Monday at Nottingham. There are no more injuries, but also nobody is coming back.

“Cheick Doucouré has had just one training session with us this week, but it will still take time, so it is the same squad.”
