Going into week seven of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance winter season, and the top two in the Premier Division, New Eltham New Stars and Sharks were the only unbeaten teams in the league

New Stars had a tough away trip to Hotshots however, they came away with a, 9-6 victory to remain the surprise team of the season at the top of the table.

Second placed Sharks were looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches when they played Sundridge Park Pocketeers in seventh, and they couldn’t have had a better start, whitewashing the first set.

Steve Covington started the comeback for Pocketeers, with Lee Martin and Kevin Dempsey making it three in a row to pull the score back to, 5-3.

Geoff La Porte and Alex Biggs won the last two frames of the set to put Sharks on the hill.

Eno Idiong was unbeaten in winning his second frame of the night to give Sharks the win and Vu Son extended their lead to, 9-3.

Dempsey also recorded an unbeaten brace, before Jay Arnold made it, 9-5.

La Porte took the last frame for his hat-trick to make the final score, 10-5.

Sharks stay in second, but they have reduced the gap at the top of the table to just one point.

Just two points behind them in third are Bellegrove, who beat second from bottom, Royal Oak, 9-6 this week.

Royal Oak were sandwiched between Falconwood Club and Foots Cray Bears, with just one point between them, but Falconwood were dominant, winning, 11-4 to jump two places to sixth in the table.

Rugrats and Pickwick were on the same points in fifth and sixth and the match between them was equally as close, but the pressure was apparent being littered with mistakes.

Rugrats had a great start winning the opening two frames after Dave Rawlinson broke and dished in the second frame.

However, Paul Cobbold and Martin Storey won the next two frames to tie the match, before Jamie Davis took the deciding frame to put Rugrats, 3-2 ahead.

The first two frames of the second set were shared, then Andre Cox and Storey won the next two frames to put Pickwick in the lead for the first time in the match.

Davis took frame ten to level the match at five all going into the last set.

The sides still couldn’t be separated in the third set, with the first four frames being shared, which included a hat-trick of hat-trick heroes, as Cobbold, Storey and Davis all won their three frames.

Rugrats’ Captain, Steve Gibson played his captain’s role and won the deciding frame to give his side the, 8-7 triumph.

Rugrats stay in fifth, five points behind Hotshots, with Falconwood leaping over Pickwick to join Rugrats on 43 points, one point ahead of Pickwick.

Only seven points separated top from bottom in SLKPA Division Two, but this more than doubled after Blackheath Sports Club’s massive win this week.

The league leaders, Blackheath Sports Club hosted fourth placed Sundridge Park Working Men’s Club and although both teams had the same win/loss record, 4/2 there was four points between them.

However, you would never have guessed, as Blackheath whitewashed the first set, 5-0.

Dave Sparey got Sundridge Park’s first frame on the board in the sixth, but Neil Shelton, Glen Ward, and Alan Dolan won the next three frames, to claim victory before the end of the second set.

Andrew Slater pulled one back, but that would be their final frame, as Blackheath made it two set whitewashes in the match, for a final score of, 13-2.

It was a fantastic all-round team performance, with Captain Kerry Wyatt winning both her frames however, Ward, Shelton and Dolan went one better with hat-tricks.

This result sent Sundridge Park to the bottom of the table, with Blackheath fifteen points ahead of them at the top.

Just below Blackheath were Bexleyheath Raiders and Bell Ya Later, who were on the same points and the match between them this week was just as close, with Raiders edging it, 8-7 to remain in second, one point ahead of their opponents and eight points behind Blackheath.

It was another tight game between the two bottom teams, Hurricanes Reborn and Farmhouse, who were on the same points.

It didn’t start well for Hurricanes, with Farmhouse taking the first frame, before Arif Salih levelled.

Farmhouse nudged in front again, but Laura Chatfield and stand-in Hurricanes Captain, Michelle Brown both won to make it, 3-2 to Hurricanes.

Farmhouse took the first frame of the second set to tie the match again however, Hurricanes won four on the bounce to make it, 7-3 and put them on the hill.

Hurricanes needed just one frame from the last set, but could not put the match away, as Farmhouse showed mettle to win four frames on the bounce themselves, to level at, 7-7.

The ever-reliable Salih played the last frame for Hurricanes and finally brought the win home, for a great, 8-7 away triumph.

It was a superb team performance, as Salih completed his hat-trick to win the match, with Brown and Chatfield playing very well to win two of their three frames.

This result lifted Hurricanes off the bottom of the table into fourth, with Farmhouse staying in fifth, one point behind Hurricanes and two points ahead of Sundridge Park.

New Stars are unbeaten at the top of the Premier Division, but their sister side, New Eltham New Boys fortunes have been the opposite, sitting bottom of Division One without a win.

However, that all changed this week, as they notched up their first league win of the season, 9-6 against Academicals to lift them off the bottom and three points behind their opponents.

Replacing New Boys at the bottom are The Con Men after they were heavily beaten, 13-2 by Nolans, who rose from seventh to third as a result.

Cue-Ologists were in sixth and went to Pool Runnings, four points ahead of them in second and got a fantastic, 9-6 victory however, they only went up one place to go one point behind their opponents in fourth.

Eltham Terrace Tigers and Eltham Terrace Rack Pack were in fourth and fifth, separated by just one point and they had tricky matches this week, with Tigers going to Eltham Evolution, on the same points as them in third and Rack Pack went to the league leaders Bellegrove Flyers.

Tigers went down to a 10-5 loss, which sent Evolution up to second and Tigers down to seventh.

Top of the table, Flyers played Rack Pack in fifth, with only three points between them however, Rack Pack didn’t help their cause by only having four players.

Jason Brunton and Bobby Rogers, with a bye, got the league leaders off to a good start however, Tony Frost, Chris Parlett and Mark Simnett won the next three frames to give Rack Pack a surprising lead.

Brunton had the bye to start the second set to tie the match and then the next four frames were shared to keep the match level at five frames all.

Brunton was given a second bye for his hat-trick, before Steve Pearce gave Flyers a two-frame lead for the first time since the beginning of the match.

Frost and Marcus Gibbons won the next two frames to level the score and give Rack Pack the chance of winning the match with just four players.

Hill played Parlett to decide the match and both of them were unbeaten, so something had to give, and Hill held his nerve to give himself a brace and his team an, 8-7 victory.

Flyers stay top of the table, but they are on the same points as Evolution in second, whereas Rack Pack have dropped one place to sixth, one point in front of their sister side, Tigers, and only five points separate Tigers and Flyers at the top.

At the top of SLKPA Division Three, Bellegrove Newbies lost their first game of the season in the last round of league matches, so were looking to bounce back this week.

Top played bottom as Bellegrove Newbies went to Large Lakhars with 26 points between them and the Lakhars had an amazing start, winning the first three frames however, Alison Cable and John Skuza won the next two frames to end the set only one frame behind.

Dan Gedhu won his only frame to extend Lakhars lead, but Marc House pulled one back again.

Ajit and Taj Gedhu joined Dan in winning a frame in this set, along with Bal Sahota to win this set, 4-1 and put their team on the hill at, 7-3.

It looked like Lakhars were going to get a shock win, but House, Josh Gardner-Nutley, Skuza and Cable won the next four frames to send the match into a deciding frame.

Raj Phull played Nick Conquest, with neither having won a frame yet in the match and it was Phull who took the frame and the unexpected victory, 8-7 for Large Lakhars.

White Hart were 14 points behind Newbies in second and this week they narrowly beat, two places and five points behind them, Angerstein by 8 frames to 7.

There were only two points between Average Joes in third and fifth placed Plough & Harrow, and Lewis Mann got Plough off to a good start with the first frame.

Average Joes took the next three frames before a tense frame, full of mistakes between Average Joes’ Glenn Reece and Plough’s James McGuire ensued, which McGuire took after, yet another mistake gave him ball in hand on the black.

Rocky Singh and Gurpal Cheema extended Average Joes lead to, 5-2 then McGuire looked like he’d be pulling one back, but his luck ran out, going in off on his last colour and Syed Shahed took advantage, producing a six-ball counter clearance to take the frame, making it three on the spin for Average Joes.

Mann prevented the set whitewash, then Sean Moynihan put Average Joes on the hill at, 7-3.

Cheema recorded a hat-trick to give Average Joes the victory and Shahed scored an unbeaten brace to extend their lead to, 9-3.

Rocky Singh was playing incredibly well, getting to the black on his first visit, which led to McGuire laying several snookers however, a sloppy safety allowed Singh to complete his hat-trick with the shot of the night, a kick into the middle pocket.

The last two frames were shared, making the final score, 11-4 to put Average Joes on the same points as White Hart.
