Discarding of PPE in Ealing

Whilst lockdown and coronavirus have bought stress upon the people in UK Ealing’s environment boss has mentioned the disgusting and dangerous littering of personal protective equipment on the streets. Residents who are irresponsibly dumbing their litter on the streets could be posing a risk to frontline NHS staff and other key workers such as rubbish collectors.

Households have now been advised to double bag their own equipment and to leave it aside for 72 hours before putting it out for rubbish collecting.

Due to the lockdown, reuse and recycling centres at Greenford and Acton are closed until further notice, but residents are reminded it is now more important than ever that fly-tipping is irresponsible, as well as a criminal offence. Extra dumping of waste is also proving to be an extra burden to key workers.

Of course, they understand that with people being at home there will be more waste produced but people are being urged to try and limit the waste. They have also been advised not to dispose of it in a bonfire as this adds to smoke and air pollution. On that matter, many countries have seen a drastic change to their climate in a positive way. For the first time ever, in a small village 200km away from the Himalayas they now have a clear vision of the mountains. Venice canals have cleared up and pollution in New York has decreased by 50%. However, of course there are many negatives that have come with covid and it will be interesting to see how the world responds when this is all over and will people return to their old routines?
