On the 26th of April, K-pop group SuperM hosted a spectacular online concert for fans all over the world to enjoy during the current pandemic. The concert is part of ‘The Beyond Live’ series which is the very first wide-scale K-pop concert series that is solely online.

SuperM is a group consisting of 7 members: Taemin, Baekhyun, Kai, Taeyong, Ten, Lucas and Mark. The group first made their debut in America back in 2019 with their charismatic song ‘Jopping’ and EP ‘SuperM’. Before the pandemic got severe, the boy band had already had their first world tour, ‘SuperM: We Are the Future Live’ which they concluded with a finale concert at The O2 in London. Thousands of fans came to see them but, of course, not everyone was able to go. The online concert was a fantastic way for fans not just in London, but around the world to be able to see their idols perform live and even interact with them.

The concert started with the group’s performance of the b-side track ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’, where state-of-the-art AR technology was used to create a mesmerising futuristic stage. Members Taeyong, Ten and Taemin then performed their strikingly beautiful solo stages which really showed the diversity of SuperM’s talents in singing, rapping and dancing. There was then a short interlude where the members were able to speak to fans via video calls and answer questions shown through a live comment section.

The group then continued to perform their other b-side song 'Super Car’ which was then followed by more solo stages from members. The band then interacted with a few more fans before performing their unreleased single ‘Tiger’ where the AR technology really stood out with 3D graphics of tigers pouncing out of the back screen to the stage. The concert continued with a few more performances before ending with SuperM’s debut single, ‘Jopping’ that left many fans energetic despite the concert ending.

One fan, A.E, who didn’t get to see SuperM perform live stated that the online concert really succeeded in creating an exciting concert-like atmosphere even though she was just at home watching. She especially liked the AR technology used as it really enhanced the idols’ performance. A.E definitely hopes to see more concerts like this in ‘The Beyond Live’ series and even possibly with western artists as well.

‘The Beyond Live’ series will continue to premiere concerts, like SuperM’s, in the month of May and continue to bring smiles to many fans’ faces.
