Mamma Mia the Musical is a must see! The ‘Smash Hit Musical’ at the Novello Theatre is fun, fresh and camp in the best way possible. From the fabulous music to the talented cast, it could not get any better.

I recently went to London with my mother, as we decided to go to the Novello theatre to watch Mamma Mia. We were both extremely excited as we love ABBA, well who doesn’t?

The show centres around Sophie, the bride to be, desperate to find out who her father is. She decides to invite three possible fathers to the Greek island for her wedding, unknown to her mother. The situation unfolds with excitement, romance and emotion, all weaved in with classic ABBA hits.

It was my first time seeing the show, but my mother’s third. I asked her how it compared to the other two she had seen. ‘The cast were energetic and simply brilliant. The joy was contagious in the theatre and from people’s faces, the happiness was beaming’.

We both agreed that the show completely transported you from the rainy streets of London to the musical Greek paradise. Due to coronavirus, for what seems like years we have been restricted from such pleasures, so the whole experience felt refreshing and cheerful. The cherry on top, had to be when everyone came together at the end and danced to ‘Super Trooper’.

Mazz Murray, who played ‘Donna’ was an absolute joy to hear and watch. Her talented voice during ‘The Winner Takes It All’ lead to a well-deserved enormous round of applause. Another cast member that stood out to me was, Jack Danson who played the character ‘Sky’. His enthusiasm and energy really were displayed throughout the dancing and comedic aspect in the performance.

Not to forget the great staff who made the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable. Coming to the busy West End post pandemic felt quite nerve racking. Yet, from the covid procedures and available hand sanitiser, the afternoon went smoothly and safely.

Overall, Mamma Mia is simply brilliant if you love ABBA, dance, comedy, romance or great music.
